Industrial Automation Engineering in an expanding stream of engineering, with an increasingly profound influence on most industries and enterprises. Upon completion of this undergraduate certificate, you will have fundamental knowledge, skills, and understanding of Industrial Automation engineering disciplines. You will be able to apply fundamental physics, chemistry, engineering drawing, demonstrate scientific, mathematical, contextual factors, and design practice knowledge that has been contextualized for industrial engineering applications.
Due to rapidly evolving technology, industrial processes are becoming increasingly automated. Previously mechanized systems, which required human intervention, now use computerized control systems for higher accuracy, precision, and cost-effectiveness. As industrial automation continues to develop with technological advancements, it is essential that prospective engineers graduate with skills that can be applied within the industry. Our undergraduate certificate provides you with cutting-edge skills that are valuable in the workplace.
With this qualification, you will have acquired the fundamental knowledge which underpins both this and other fields of engineering.
You must complete 12 credit points comprising four common units. There are no electives in this program. The full-time program duration is six months over 1 semester (or part-time equivalent). For further study, graduates may consider EIT’s Bachelor of Science (Industrial Automation Engineering).
Please refer to the current teach-out program structure here.

The Undergraduate Certificate in Industrial Automation Engineering is a pathway into the Bachelor of Science (Industrial Automation Engineering), subject to meeting admission requirements and successful completion of the course. Students can receive up to 12 units of credits towards the Bachelor of Science (Industrial Automation Engineering) upon successful completion of the course.
Potential job roles include engineering and management positions in the following areas of expertise:
Our undergraduate certificates take six months to complete full time. Students are expected to spend approximately 10 hours per week per unit learning the program material, completing assessment and attending tutorials. After enrolment the maximum time allowed to complete all units is 3 years.
You must submit your application at least four weeks prior to the start date to be considered for your desired intake.
A census date is the date at which an enrolment is considered to be final. Any withdrawal you make after the study period census date will incur an academic penalty (for example, a fail grade) and a financial penalty (for example, no refund of your student contribution or tuition fees). See our current census dates.
Any student has a right to appeal a decision of the Engineering Institute of Technology (EIT) or any member of the institute’s staff. EIT has a comprehensive Policy on Appeals and Grievances to assist students.
