The Engineering College of Technology celebrates a major milestone—officially becoming a registered provider with degree awarding powers. This achievement marks a new era for the college as it redefines excellence in engineering learning across the nation.
The Engineering College of Technology (ECT) is thrilled to announce that it has officially become a registered provider under the auspices of the Office for Students, the independent regulator of tertiary learning in England.
This milestone not only grants the school formal recognition as a tertiary institution but also includes degree awarding powers.
This marks a monumental achievement for the institution, underscoring its commitment to delivering top-tier engineering scholling and paving the way for an exciting future .
The road to registration has been a significant journey, one that has been ably steered by the dedicated and active members of the Governance and Academic Boards.
Mike Rodd, Chair of the college Governance Board, and Denis Marchant, Chair of the Academic Board, have been instrumental in navigating the registration process, ensuring they meet the rigorous standards set forth by the Office for Students.
Their leadership has been central to securing this prestigious status, and their ongoing involvement will continue to guide the college’s future growth.
Mike Rodd, Chair of the Governance Board, explained how this milestone transforms access to tertiary engineering.
“We have evolved from the Australian Engineering Institute of Technology (EIT), a leading international provider of a wide range of online courses across the globe. Using the same state-of-the-art technology, we will now offer these and similar programmes from its base in Europe, leading to British degrees and qualifications.”
Rodd highlighted that the delivery of course material is almost entirely internet-based, with online interactive instruction, tutorials, and personal support from tutors.
“Our courses are particularly attractive to students who are already employed but wish to broaden or deepen their knowledge and credentials. Indeed, practical project work required as part of a programme can frequently be undertaken – where appropriate – within a student’s own company,” said Rodd.
In addition to this significant achievement, Denis Marchant, Chair of the Academic Board, shared his perspective on what this means for the institution’s academic future.
“Our entry into the tertiary system represents a pivotal moment for the college. We are proud to offer niche degree programmes that combine innovative online delivery with practical laboratory activities,” said Marchant.
He noted that their programmes align with country’s educational standards, providing accessible pathways into learning while ensuring a high-quality student experience.
“The college remains committed to continuous improvement and maintaining academic excellence through rigorous quality assurance measures.”
The British institution is proudly affiliated with EIT, a well-established Australian-based institution that has been providing professional development micro-credentials for over 30 years, and since 2008, online engineering qualifications to technicians, technologists, and engineers worldwide.
EIT has a proven track record of delivering education that meets global standards, and this affiliation strengthens the British school’s ability to offer education excellence.
Students will benefit from the extensive resources, experienced lecturers, and global networks that EIT has accrued and established over the years.
In the next exciting phase of its development, the college is poised to launch four online engineering degrees, starting with two bachelor’s on 22 September and two master’s on 6 October.
Each degree is designed to meet the highest industry standards while providing students with the flexibility to study from anywhere in the world, alongside full-time work.
Upon completion, graduates will be awarded qualifications that meet the British national educational frameworks, setting them up for future or continued success in their engineering careers.
The degrees on offer include:
These programmes are designed to be completed entirely online, leveraging EIT’s advanced digital platform, which includes remote laboratories connected to real equipment and simulation software.
Registration as a local higher education provider marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for the college.
With the launch of these online degrees, they are positioned to be a leading force in the British engineering education sector. The college is committed to providing students with the skills and knowledge they need to thrive in the ever-evolving engineering industry.
As the institution continues to expand its offerings and build on its strong foundation, students can expect a dynamic and forward-thinking educational experience, supported by a global network of engineering professionals and experts.
