In the rapidly evolving landscape of today’s industries, continuous professional development has become a cornerstone for organizational success and individual growth.

Companies across various sectors recognize the invaluable impact of training programs in empowering their workforce with up-to-date knowledge and advanced skillsets. One such collaboration that has stood the test of time is the partnership between the Engineering Institute of Technology’s (EIT) sister company, IDC Technologies, and the Engineering Technical & Management Services (ETMS).

ETMS is an independent multidisciplinary engineering consultancy based in Mauritius and offers a range of engineering services to customers wishing to outsource part or all their engineering work.

In this article, we speak to ETMS MD Jean-Michel Quevauvilliers and delve into the transformative power of this collaboration, exploring how IDC’s unique approach to training has elevated ETMS’s employees’ capabilities, encouraged collaboration, and equipped them to adapt to the ever-changing demands of the market.

From success stories to the nurturing of enthusiasm for learning, join us as we unveil the profound impact of our group training journey with ETMS.

How many years has ETMS been involved with IDC Technologies?

Our collaborative partnership spans a duration of eight years, and it is worth noting that my initial engagement with them commenced over 15 years ago on a personal level.

Can you please describe the group training program IDC Technologies provided for ETMS? What were the key objectives and focus areas of the training?

ETMS provides 3-days short courses using trainers from IDC Technologies for engineers and technicians who are already working in the industry locally. Our key aim is to help them plug the gap between their initial training and the requirements of their day-to-day work.

How did IDC Technologies’ group training approach differ from other training programs ETMS has experienced in the past? What unique elements did it bring to the table?

The approach of IDC Technologies is to bring specialists with both theoretical and practical experience in each field and/or subject covered; this is different from some others who are simply specialists in training and use materials written for them by specialists. The difference is clear, and trainees feel that.

In what specific ways did the group training positively impact your team’s performance and skills? Can you share any success stories or specific examples of how the training advanced your employees?

One notable and recurrent success story lies within the realm of Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC). Over the years, we have consistently offered the same HVAC course, and remarkably, we continuously witness new trainees displaying an eagerness to advance their expertise in this field.

Moreover, our skilled engineers have successfully applied the knowledge gained from the HVAC course to undertake a comprehensive assessment of a building with an HVAC system nearing the end of its operational life.

The up-to-date insights acquired through the course proved invaluable in conducting a thorough evaluation, leading to the identification of initial design flaws and significant changes in the building’s usage patterns. Consequently, these insights have played a pivotal role in the system’s redesign process.

How did you feel IDC Technologies’ trainers tailored the group training to address the unique needs and challenges faced by ETMS?

Within ETMS, we frequently welcome trainees from diverse fields of engineering, encompassing roles in sales, design, and operations. This amalgamation of varied backgrounds brings forth a unique blend of experience and distinct learning requirements. Remarkably, our IDC trainers exhibit exceptional attentiveness to this diversity and respond by fostering unique opportunities for trainees to share their individual insights and experiences with one another.

Moreover, IDC’s trainers draw upon their extensive expertise and firsthand experiences, ensuring that the training sessions are enriched with relevant and up-to-date knowledge from the industry, thereby enriching the overall learning experience.

Collaboration and teamwork are crucial for all organizations. How did the group training foster a sense of unity and improved collaboration among your employees?

I am pleased to observe that IDC’s group training approach facilitates a collaborative learning environment, where each employee is encouraged to share the knowledge and insights acquired during the training with their fellow colleagues.

This open and interactive exchange of information is highly valued by all team members, as it fosters a sense of unity and cohesion within the group. By promoting a culture of knowledge-sharing and mutual support, our team progresses harmoniously as a cohesive unit, bolstering our collective capabilities and achieving shared goals effectively.

As your company’s goals and industry demand changes, how did the group training equip your team to adapt and stay relevant in the market?

Our experience with the trainers from IDC has consistently demonstrated their unwavering commitment to staying at the forefront of their respective fields.

Notably, these trainers possess a deep understanding of industry practices and are well-versed in the latest research developments within their specialty. This combination of practical industry insights and cutting-edge research enriches our learning experience, equipping us with extremely valuable information that has a direct and positive impact on our professional growth and adaptability to the dynamic demands of the market.

Employee engagement and motivation are vital aspects of professional development. How did the group training contribute to boosting your employees’ enthusiasm for learning and growth within the company?

Our employees feel recognized and valued by their peers and trainers during the training events. This recognition encourages motivation, leading them to actively improve their competencies and skills in the work environment.

Looking back on the group training experience, what feedback or suggestions do you have to further enhance the effectiveness of future training programs with IDC?

An essential recommendation is to embrace the understanding that there are no foolish questions. A successful training experience hinges on approaching it with an open mind and a genuine eagerness to explore and learn from others. With this receptive attitude, no subject is perceived as either too intricate or too basic.
