B. Ed (Honors), Higher Diploma in Education (HDE), Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Diploma in HVAC Engineering, Trades in Air conditioning, Refrigeration & Electrician.
Avril has over 38 years of experience in the HVAC (Heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration) industry. He acquired his initial industrial air conditioning training at the South African Airways, railways, and harbours. While working for York MIAC, Avril revamped an entire hospital HVAC system thirty-three years ago. Avril worked on multistage centrifugal chillers at 1 Military Hospital and President Steyn mine.
Twenty-four years ago, Avril invented and built the unifridge which is currently being used and studied in ten universities in South Africa, and at a university in Saudi Arabia. Ten Further Education and Training institutions (FETs) also use the unifridge.
He has worked as a consultant in the HVAC field at Tshwane University of Technology, Cape Peninsula University of Technology, Botswana University, Mangosuthu University of Technology, and Dublin City University in Ireland. Avril lectured in HVAC and electrical technology at the University of Johannesburg. He was trained on VRFs (Variable Refrigerant Flow) systems and different refrigeration applications. (Mitsubishi)
He has done work for IDC (EIT) in Malaysia, Ireland, the UK, Angola, Tanzania, Kenya, Cape Town, Durban, VW Car Plant (Uitenhage), EThekwini metropolitan municipality, Sasol-Secunda, Sasol-Sasolburg, Pietermatizburg, Spoormaker & Partners, Mauritius & Johannesburg, ranging from HVAC & R, Electrical, Power Quality, Earthing of utilities, substation earthing, pumps, etc. He has also designed an air conditioning system for a building in Mauritius called Ebene Skies.
He trained engineers and technicians at Usizo Technical Services. He lectures from a hands-on approach and is a passionate instructor.
