As we approach the conclusion of 2023, the Engineering Institute of Technology (EIT) proudly acknowledges numerous noteworthy moments that have defined our year.
With our mission of training and education in engineering, the year has allowed us to present a number of opportunities to those already working in engineering industries globally and to those who aspire to. Our diverse array of services, engaging webinars, and a comprehensive selection of courses and qualifications have welcomed numerous individuals into the EIT community.
Join us in revisiting some of the key highlights that have shaped our journey over 2023.
But first, news just in:
A little earlier this month the Australian Government granted EIT Self-Accrediting Status and an unconditional re-registration for seven years. This is a pivotal achievement as it will facilitate the expansion of our offerings and our reach.
EIT’s commitment to scholarly research included the sponsorship of technical conferences and events internationally. These platforms not only unite industry experts and professionals but they provide a forum for the exchange of knowledge and industry insights, and help promote advancements in engineering fields.
EIT Academic Research Efforts and Accolades included:
The commencement of the year was marked by a warm welcome to new international students across our campuses in Perth and Melbourne. The student statistics for 2023 were exceptionally promising:
In celebration of our incredible graduates two ceremonies were hosted. In November an in-person and live-streamed event was held at the Kings Park State Reception Centre at Frasers, in Perth, Western Australia. The second, in December, was held at Cedar Woods, Sandton in Gauteng, South Africa. All at EIT are very proud of our graduates’ achievements.
EIT’s Vocational Education and Training (VET) team celebrated a surge in student numbers, necessitating strategic overflow intakes, a testament to the popularity of the programs. The team has enhanced remote lab access to accommodate this growth.
In a commitment to academic integrity, both IRIS and Turnitin have been integrated into VET courses, ensuring a robust learning environment.
The VET portfolio expanded in 2023 with the launch of several courses, including the Professional Certificate of Competency in Fundamentals of Electric Vehicles (CEV), Hydrogen Engineering & Management and the Industrial Internet of Things (IoT) Foundations.
Looking forward, the team has exciting plans for 2024, with the scheduled release of new graduate certificates.
In-person conferences are well and truly back. 2023 marked a vibrant period for EIT and its collaboration with IDC Technologies.
The inaugural Hydrogen Safety & Hazardous Areas Conferences in Brisbane and Perth were hugely successful; and despite unique challenges in South Africa, the experience laid a robust foundation for future endeavors.
The High Voltage Conferences in Brisbane and Melbourne solidified places on the calendar, and will debut in New Zealand in 2024.
Closing the year, the second LearnTech Conference & Exhibition in Perth proved successful, offering practical approaches to modern education and technology.
Aside from these in-person conferences, an online EIT Doctor of Engineering (DEng) Conference featured research topics presented by students and international research leaders.
IDC Technologies’ in-house training program also thrived throughout 2023, with noteworthy collaborations and achievements.
Our strong partnership with ETMS Mauritius, led by Managing Director Jean Michel Quevauvilliers, continues to flourish. Steve Mackay had the pleasure of meeting with him in Mauritius both in February and November.
Based on the training requirements provided, a bespoke Fundamentals in Instrumentation & Control course was designed for Unilever. The first 20-week session concluded successfully in December, with more intakes scheduled for the New Year. Additionally, members of NFEA and Aker Solutions completed a customized Professional Certificate of Competency in IEC 61850 Substation Automation, prompting plans for multiple intakes in 2024.
The conferences, free webinars, new micro-credentials and qualifications reveal the dedication of IDC Technologies and EIT to sustainable engineering development through education. Hyper-automation, sustainable energy, cybersecurity, supply chain management, and space technology remain key focuses as we continue to evolve in 2024.
In 2023, EIT presented 36 short courses, with some standouts including the:
EIT’s commitment to evolving with industry inspires course design, including these which were launched late last year:
EIT hosts a range of interactive events and free online webinars across a broad spectrum of topics and disciplines. some of our most popular webinars included:
You can access past webinars via the EIT YouTube channel.
EIT staff have also so enjoyed meeting people on their international trips. These visits are designed to spread the EIT word and to deliver technical seminars. Countries visited this year included:
Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Nepal, Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines, Vietnam, India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Kenya, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Namibia and Mauritius.
“It has been a great year of meeting incredible people; I am overwhelmed by the enthusiasm and passion for engineering and education that I have encountered. Our plans for 2024 are progressing, despite the inevitable hurdles.
I would like to wish you a very pleasant break over the festive season and a stimulating 2024. Please take good care of yourselves.” — Steve Mackay – (PhD) Dean of Engineering
Please note that all EIT offices will close on Friday 22nd December 2023 and re-open on Tuesday 3 January 2023.
