Engineering Institute of Technology (EIT) Doctor of Engineering (DEng) student Julius Nteh’s journey from his homeland in Cameroon, Central Africa, to the bustling cityscape of Berlin, Germany, inspires anyone wanting to chart their engineering path.
Rarely does a student story capture one’s attention as much as Julius Netheh’s narrative, which was one of determination and growth, embodying the spirit of innovation and progress within the field of renewable energy. His journey took a significant turn when he pursued a Doctor of Engineering degree at EIT, further solidifying his commitment to advancing renewable energy solutions.
We caught up with him to learn more about his remarkable transition and explored the challenges he faced, the opportunities he seized, and the insights he gained along the way.
Julius’ journey towards a career in renewable energy began long before he set foot on German soil. “Since 2010, I have been striving to pursue further studies in renewable energy,” he explained.
His ambition and dedication were duly recognized in 2016 when he was awarded the prestigious OFID scholarship, which supports outstanding young individuals from developing countries. This scholarship opened doors for him to pursue a dual master’s degree program in renewable energy and energy efficiency, leading him to the University of Kassel in Germany.
Reflecting on this pivotal moment, Julius shared, “In 2016, I was selected for the OFID scholarship to study renewable energy and energy efficiency in Germany.”
Transitioning from the familiar landscapes of Cameroon to the vibrant buzz of Berlin was a significant milestone in his journey. “Leaving the comfort zone was never easy,” he admitted, “but it was the only way to truly grow.”
As he settled into life in Berlin, Julius encountered myriad challenges, from language barriers to cultural differences. However, he remained steadfast in his pursuit of knowledge and growth, recognizing the boundless opportunities ahead.
Berlin posed unique challenges and opportunities in the renewable energy sector. “Ejecting PV energy into a busy grid like the one in Berlin is very complex,” he explained.
“The required protective system to be met is challenging and sometimes needs extra effort to achieve the goals.”
Specialized equipment and protocols were essential in ensuring the safety and efficiency of renewable energy systems. His engineering background equipped him with the knowledge and skills necessary to address these challenges effectively, contributing to advancing renewable energy solutions in Berlin and beyond.
Today, as an electrical engineer at Kraftwerk Renewable Power Solution GmbH, Julius is at the forefront of renewable energy innovation in Berlin. He oversees network connections and monitors solar energy systems, requiring technical expertise and strategic insight. Julius’ dedication to his craft was evident in his commitment to excellence.
“I strive to contribute to a more sustainable future through my work,” he emphasized. Through his tireless efforts and unwavering determination, he said he remains committed to helping shape the future of renewable energy in Berlin and beyond.
He deliberated meticulously before making the decision to pursue a DEng degree at EIT. “Choosing EIT was first a matter of comparison and verification for the certificate’s authenticity to be awarded,” he explained.
He found that EIT stood out among the rest through rigorous comparison and verification processes. “The EIT online studies were very exceptional with very dedicated and seasoned lecturers,” he remarked.
His preference for online studies stemmed from his desire to effectively balance work and academic pursuits. “Just when I thought nothing authentic and effective existed, EIT surfaced on my browser,” he recalled, highlighting the serendipitous nature of his discovery.
The program’s emphasis on practical application and technological advancement resonated deeply with Julius, aligning perfectly with his career aspirations and academic interests.
EIT offers a comprehensive range of courses and programs in renewable energy, catering to the needs of aspiring engineers and professionals alike.
From fundamentals of renewable energy technologies to advanced topics in sustainable energy systems, EIT’s curriculum equips students with the knowledge and skills necessary to tackle real-world challenges in the field.
