Government Supported Degrees For Papua New Guinea Students

Joint EIT and Unitech Degree

EIT has collaborated with The Papua New Guinea University of Technology to offer joint degrees to eligible Papua New Guinea students. These degrees are eligible for the Higher Education Loan Program (HELP), an initiative of the National Government of Papua New Guinea, giving students greater access to study at EIT.
Upon graduation, students will receive an EIT/Unitech Bachelor’s Degree, which is internationally recognized under the Sydney Accord, or EIT/Unitech Master’s Degree, with Master of Engineering (Industrial Automation) and Master of Engineering (Electrical Systems) internationally recognized under the Washington Accord.

Details of the offer:

The National Higher and Technical Education Board (NHTEB) has approved the recognition of the Engineering Institute of Technology as an Overseas Higher Education Institution for a period  of five (5) years, starting January 2022.

To be eligible for a HELP loan via the Department of Higher Education, Research Science and Technology (DHERST) students must be enrolled in a program provided jointly by EIT and Unitech.

Students apply on the EIT website for a course of their choice. The course must be an online bachelor or master degree program.

  • During application, students must indicate they are interested in the EIT/Unitech offer and that they wish to apply for a HELP loan
  • EIT will share applicant details with Unitech for the purposes of enrolment and assisting with HELP loan applications.
  • HELP loan applications must be filled in separately from the EIT application form. The decision to provide funding is made by the Department of Higher Education, Research Science and Technology (DHERST) and enrolment with EIT and Unitech does not guarantee a positive HELP loan outcome.

  • Students to check the eligibility and requirements of the HELP loan.
  • HELP loan funding may only cover a portion of the tuition fees payable for the course. The balance of tuition fees payable is to be paid by the student each semester, directly to Unitech.
  • Students must deposit tuition fees into the Unitech bank account prior to each semester’s payment due date.
  • If a student has not paid before the payment due date their enrolment may be deferred or withdrawn.

HELP loan is an annual scheme, maximum limit for HELP per applicant:

  • up to K10,000 for undergraduate programs, per year, and
  • K15,000 -K20,000 for postgraduate programs, per year.

HELP loans can apply to full-time and part-time studies.

EIT and Unitech enrolled students can apply for both undergraduate and postgraduate HELP loans.

TESAS is Tertiary Education Scholarship Assistance Scheme in Papua New Guinea.

TESAS has sponsorships available for undergraduate and postgraduate students (academic excellence, contribution assistance, gender equality). Please refer to their website for more details.

Students need to apply directly to TESAS, and enrolment with EIT/Unitech does not guarantee a positive application outcome. TESAS scholarship are offered for one year.

Please note that these are partial scholarships and some course fees may be payable if the scholarship is granted.

  • EIT Bachelor’s degrees may be undertaken on a full-time (27 credit points per year) or part-time (fewer than 27 credit points per year) basis and must be completed within 7 years of commencement.
  • EIT Master’s degrees may be undertaken on a full-time (24 credit points per year) or part-time (fewer than 24 credit points per year) basis and must be completed within 5 years of commencement.
